One of the most decorated and successful high school athletes in state history has capped her career with recognition as the state’s top player. Nicole Griffin of Milwaukee Vincent has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the Miss Basketball Award presented by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.
Griffin, a 6-6 forward, led the Vikings to three straight Division 1 state titles and a state semi-final appearance this season. Vincent won or shared a conference title three of the four years Griffin was on the team, including this season when they finished with a 14-0 league record and Milwaukee City Conference-Gold Division title. Vincent compiled a 95-8 overall record in Griffin’s four years.
This level of team success combined with outstanding skills and ability attracted a Who’s Who of college recruiters. With scholarship offers from throughout the country, Griffin ultimately chose to attend the University of Oklahoma.
As a senior, Griffin averaged 17.6 points to go with 8 rebounds per contest to lead Vincent in both categories, despite seeing limited action in a number of blowout Vincent wins. As she showed in numerous state tournament games, she is great at the free throw line, especially late in games. Griffin shot 77% from the line as a senior, including 17 for 18 in two state tournament games. Griffin totaled 59 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots while playing every minute of those games at the Kohl Center.
Griffin was a unanimous pick on the WBCA Division 1 All-State team this year and was an All-State selection last season as well.
