Nicole Griffin is the lone unanimous selection in the WBCA Division 1 All-State Team. Griffin, a 6-6 senior, averaged 16 points, 8 boards and 4 blocks per game. An Oklahoma recruit, she led her Vikings to a 23-2 record leading up to the state tournament where she will be trying for her unprecedented 4th straight title.
The rest of the first team consisted of: Kelsey Andrist, Menomonie; Kelly Brandenburg, Divine Savior Holy Angels; Katie Ellerson, Sr., Muskego; Kelly Frings, Sr., Pius; Kerry Gardner, Jr., Middleton; Ashley Green, Jr., Nicolet; Samantha Logic, Jr., Racine Case; Kristin Tischer, Sr., De Pere; Taylor Varsho, So., Marshfield; Jessica Waldvogel, Sr., Wausau West.
Andrist led Menomonie to their first winning season in 8 years in style, going 21-2 and winning the Big Rivers Conference. The 5-11 guard averaged 16 points per game for the Indians.
Brandenburg was co-MVP of the Greater Metro conference and helped DSHA to a 17-8 record against one of the toughest schedules in the state. A true box score stuffer, she averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game.
Ellerson averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds per game leading Muskego to a 20-5 record and a share of the Southeast Conference title. The 6-0 forward will play basketball for Division 1 Evansville next season.
Frings patrolled the paint for a Pius XI team that won the Classic 8 crown and went 23-3 on the season. A Bradley recruit, she led her team through a brutal sectional to the state tournament this season.
Gardner, a 5-8 guard, led Middleton to their third consecutive state tournament birth and a share of the Big 8 conference title. She averaged 17 points per game including a 29 point outburst in the sectional final.
Green helped Nicolet to an undefeated North Shore conference title and a 20-2 record overall. The 5-8 guard averaged 16 points per game for the Knights.
Logic led Racine Case to a state title birth, co-conference championship and a 22-3 record coming into the state tournament. One of the top prospects in the junior class, she averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists on the season.
Tischer, a 6-1 forward, is a big reason DePere has had such a successful season after massive losses to graduation. She averaged 15.5 points helping the Red Birds win a conference title and amass a 24-1 record coming into the state tournament.
Varsho is the lone sophomore on the first team as she led Marshfield to a 21-3 record including a spotless 12-0 record in the Wisconsin Valley conference. A 5-6 guard, she averaged 19.1 points per game on the season.
Waldvogel did it all for Wausau West this season averaging 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game. She helped lead the Warriors to a 22-4 record and a trip the state tournament.
