Black Hawk senior Kim Wellnitz was a unanimous selection to the 2010 Division 4 WBCA All-State team. The 6-0 center led the Warriors with 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and this year’s only unanimous selection to the Division 4 team. Wellnitz, who also averaged 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals this season, was named to her second straight All-State team as Black Hawk qualified for its second straight state tournament.
The rest of the 2010 Division 4 WBCA All-State team consisted of Abbie Anderson, Prentice; Annie Block, Northwood; Kimee Chandler, Pecatonica; Chelsea Drea, Weston; Emily Dufek, Lake Country Lutheran; Carley Emery, Siren; Rachel Hanley, Northwood; Jamie Kok, Central Wisconsin Christian and Taylor Thomas, Newman.
Abbie Anderson led Prentice to its second straight undefeated Marawood North title via an 18 point and 9.7 rebound scoring average this season. Anderson, a 5-9 junior forward, received votes in last year’s all-state voting and makes her first appearance on the All-State team.
Northwood’s Annie Block was a force inside for the Evergreens and a big reason why Northwood made its first trip to the state tournament this season. The 5-9 junior forward led Northwood with 14.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season and was named to her first All-State team.
Kimee Chandler earned her third straight All-State team nomination this year, averaging 17.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game in her senior season at Pecatonica. The 5-7 guard scored her 1000th point for the Vikings earlier this season and led the Six Rivers East Conference in scoring.
As yet another junior gracing this year’s Division 4 All-State team, Weston’s Chelsea Drea led the Silver Eagles with 16.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The 5-7 forward also added 1.4 assists and 1.7 steals, helping Weston to its first state appearance since 1994.
Emily Dufek’s offensive prowess was more than impressive this season, as the Lake Country Lutheran senior led all of Division 4 with 23.5 points per game. Dufek, a 5-7 guard, helped the Lightning to its first ever regional final game this season and made her first All-State team after receiving votes last season.
For the second straight year, a Siren player with the name Emery graced the WBCA All-State team. This season, junior Carley Emery was an all-everything player for Siren, which shared its fourth straight Lakeland West crown. Emery, an Honorable Mention last season, led the Dragons with 22.8 points per game, second only to Dufek in all of Division 4.
Rachel Hanley, a 5-6 senior guard, averaged 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.8 steals per game wearing the Green and White this season. While fellow All-State teammate Block patrolled the inside, Hanley was described as making this team “go”, as the Trees went all the way to Madison for their first ever state tournament berth.
Central Wisconsin Christian’s Jamie Kok finished her storied senior season averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 10 rebounds per game. A 6-0 forward, Kok also chipped in 4.3 assists, 4.4 steals and 2.6 blocks per game for the Crusaders and earned her second straight All-State nomination. Kok finished her high school career with an impressive 1,398 total points.
Taylor Thomas led Newman with 13.8 points per contest and finished as the top scorer in the competitive Marawood South Conference. The 6-0 junior center, one of many All-State nominees playing in this year’s state tournament, earned her first honors in Division 4.
