Seniors Austin Armga of Waupun, T.J. Bray of Catholic Memorial, Flavien Davis of Wisconsin Lutheran and Josh Gasser of Port Washington are unanimous selections for the 2010 Division 2 WBCA All-State team.
Armga battled a high ankle sprain during the second half of the season, but the 6-3 combination guard still managed to have a huge senior year. The Michigan Tech recruit averaged 27.3 points per game while leading Waupun to a 22-3 record. He scored a career-high 49 points in a 77-75 loss to Kiel in a sectional semifinal game at the Brown County Arena.
Bray led Catholic Memorial to a 25-2 record and a spot in the state tournament by averaging 17.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. The Princeton recruit shot 65 percent from the field and 73 percent from the foul line. He had 26 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a regional semifinal victory over Lakeside Lutheran.
Davis is a four-year varsity performer for the perennially strong Wisconsin Lutheran Vikings. A four-team all-league pick in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference, Davis averaged 20.9 ppg and 7.8 rpg as a senior. The Loyola University recruit also shot 55 percent from the field.
Gasser was virtually impossible to keep off the free-throw line as the University of Wisconsin recruit made 164 of 194 attempts from the foul line in 23 games for a shooting percentage of 85 percent. He also averaged 23.9 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 4.8 assists while leading his team to a share of the North Shore Conference title with Germantown.
The rest of the division 2 team consisted of Brandon Gries, Kiel; Trevor Hass, New London; Donnie Hissa, Northwestern; Kevin Hurd, Portage; Calahan Skogman, Seymour and J.J. Panoske, Brodhead.
Gries led Kiel to its first state-tournament appearance since 1974 by averaging 24.8 ppg. The ultra-quick and highly competitive wing guard scored a career-high 45 points in a regional final victory over Valders.
Hass is a terrific perimeter shooter who can also get to the basket and finish at the rim. The Augustana College recruit averaged 23.3 ppg for a New London squad that finished 18-6.
Hissa excels on the football field and baseball diamond in addition to his vast abilities on the basketball court. The Notre Dame baseball recruit led Northwestern to the state tournament for the second year in a row by averaging 15.1 ppg.
Hurd scored more than 1,300 points and handed out more than 500 assists during his stellar four-year career at Portage. The Carroll University recruit averaged 20.0 ppg while leading the Warriors to a 16-7 record.
Panoske is a skilled 6-9 forward who can step out and make shots from beyond the three-point arc. He averaged 21.8 ppg while leading Brodhead to a 15-9 record.
Skogman is one of the state’s best catch-and-shoot three-point specialists. The 6-4 wing guard is also a strong defender and he led Seymour to the title in the Bay Conference by averaging 19.4 ppg.
